THE 58-times capped former Scotland midfielder has signed for his local team and may play later in the season.
SCOTLAND legend John Collins has signed for his hometown club at the ripe old age of 46.
Lowland League outfit Gala Fairydean Rovers wanted to play the 58-times capped midfielder in their East of Scotland Qualifying Cup tie against Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale on Tuesday evening. But they were unable to get the required international clearance from the English FA in time for the kick-off.

Zur neuen Saison wird die Lowland League auf 14 Clubs aufgestockt!
Die beiden neuen Vereine sind Edinburgh University AFC, bekannt aus der East of Scotland League, und BSC (Broomhill Sports Club) Glasgow, von denen ich vorher noch nie was gehört habe.

Garry O’Connor set to sign for Selkirk
FORMER Hibernian striker Garry O’Connor has agreed to sign for Lowland League outfit Selkirk.
O’Connor - who has been without a club since a spell at Morton - will attend the Borderers’ match with the Hibs Under-20 side at Yarrow Park this evening.
Selkirk have won the Border League three times, the last time coming in the 1902/03 season.

Ex Hibs and Spartans star is first senior female boss in UK
Shelley Kerr has been appointed manager of the University of Stirling – making her Britain’s first-ever female manager of a senior football team.
Kerr, formerly of Hibs Ladies and Spartans, replaces Eddie May, who left the Lowland League outfit to join Hibs’ youth set-up.

Aber überraschenderweise nicht nach Granton zum Vorjahresmeister Spartans, sondern weiter östlich nach Meadowbank zu City. Und das, obwohl sie noch 7(!!) Spiele zu absolvieren haben!
Freut mich ungemein, denn City ist nicht mit zahlreichen Ex-SPFL Spielern gespickt. Der Großteil des Kaders kommt aus der eigenen Jugend, aufgefüllt mit East-of-Scotland League Spielern und nur 2 "Stars". Der nigerianische Ex-Profi Daniel Ortega (u.a. Levski Sofia) kam während der Saison und der "Hauptpfeiler" des Teams ist der ehemalige Teilzeit-Profi Joe Mbu (u.a. Cowdenbeath (5 Jahre), Stenhousemuir, East Fife), der die Schuhe eigentlich an den Nagel hängen wollte.
Nette Geschichte dazu: Ende der vergangenen Saison hatte Mbu keinen Bock mehr auf den Stress. Bis 17 Uhr arbeiten, ab ins Auto und nach Fife, wo er aufgrund der Rushhour ständig zu spät zum Training kam. Training, Massagen etc., zurück nach Edinburgh und nicht vor 22 Uhr Feierabend. Das wollte Joe sich nicht mehr antun und beschloss, seine Karriere zu beenden. Dann kam im Sommer die Anfrage von Trainer Gary Jardine, ob er in der Saisonvorbereitung bei City ein paar Spiele aushelfen könnte. Mbu gefiel die jugendlich engagierte Mannschaft und er blieb.
Nun hat er also die Chance, über die Relegation wieder in die SPFL aufzusteigen. Da es aber wohl gegen die Brora Rangers geht, sehe ich da leider schwarz, gegen Brora ist man schon im SFA-Cup ausgeschieden.
Wie dem auch sei, drücke den Schwarz-Weißen jedenfalls ganz doll die Daumen!
