Selangor FC is a professional football club representing the state of Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia. Nicknamed as the Red Giants, Gergasi Merah or Merah Kuning (Red and Yellow), the club was first established on 22nd February 1936 when two football entities; Selangor Association Football League (SAFL) and Selangor Football Association (SFA) merged to form Football Association of Selangor or better known as FA Selangor (FAS). Selangor is arguably the most successful football team in Malaysia as they have won Malaysia Cup 33 times, 7 times league titles, 5 FA Cups, and lifted the Community Shield for 8 times. In 2018, FAS reached a new milestone when Raja Muda Selangor, DYTM Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah took over the top management row of the club and started a new revolution in order to bring the club onto another level, restoring its glory and preparing the club towards sustainability. In 2021, the team who was formerly known as the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) is being separated from the association as it is recognized as a professional football club, Selangor Football Club (SFC) using an almost identical same crest. Both football association and football club now have their own vision and mission but synergized to uplift the football level in Selangor state as a whole. The association will focus mostly on state-level league management, grass-root empowerment, and officials training, while the club will concentrate on competition and sustainability of the club on the professional level.
