Giacomo Vrioni joins New England Revolution - Juventus receive six-figure fee

The New England Revolution have found a replacement for Adam Buksa. On Tuesday, the Major League Soccer club announced the acquisition of Albanian national team striker Giacomo Vrioni from Italian giants Juventus. Vrioni has signed as a Designated Player (DP) until 2025 with an additional one-year club option. The Serie A giants will receive $3.8 million—it is the fourth highest fee paid in New England's club history (overview). 

“We are pleased to announce the signing of Giacomo Vrioni to a long-term contract with the New England Revolution. Giacomo caught our eye with his recent goal-scoring success in Austria and came highly recommended by some truly outstanding people in our sport,” Revolution sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said in a club statement. “I look forward to Giacomo’s arrival in New England and look forward to working with him. He is a most welcomed addition to our team.”

Vrioni originally joined Juventus from Sampdoria in the summer of 2020 for $4.3 million. The striker, however, spent the 2021/22 season on loan at Austrian side WSG Tirol where he scored 17 goals and four assists in 25 Austrian Bundesliga games, the second-most in the league behind Red Bull Salzburg striker Karim Adeyemi. Vrioni's performances also had an impact on his market value as his evaluation grew from just $990,000 to now $2.75 million.
